Jeff Barr from Amazon at Provo Labs Academy at 10 am
We have more than 75 RSPVs for today\’s Jeff Barr presentation. It will be held at the Provo City Library at 10 am.
The event is hosted by Provo Labs Academy, which trains entrepreneurs on internet marketing. (Next 12-week course will start in March. Fill out this Contact Me form to learn more.)
I think we may have room for 5-10 more people, so if you\’d like to show up in hopes of getting a seat, you might want to give it a try.
Amazon’s Jeff Barr Visiting Provo Labs
Jeff Barr is coming to Provo Labs in February!
This is going to be a great opportunity for Utah\’s entrepreneurs and IT crowd to learn more about what Amazon is doing with web services. Jeff is a Web Services evangelist at Amazon; he has an great inside view of the powerful tools and services that Amazon has built for internal use that they are willing to provide to other companies, some for free and some for a fee.
FundingUniverse Speedpitching Events: Raise Money for Your Startup
FundingUniverse.com now has about 1,000 angel investors in virtually every state. The company, which I helped found in early 2005, is holding its 5th speedpitching event today in Sandy, Utah. It has held events in 6 or more states and has plans to continue to expand.
I\’ve attended several of these events representing the small fund we have at Provo Labs, as a potential investor.
The coaching and practice sessions have been extremely helpful. Imagine trying to get your entire business plan onto a 1-page summary that will be distributed. And then imagine being forced to tell your story in 4 minutes. That\’s what all the entrepreneurs learn how to do.
After the 4 minute pitch, the investors get 3 minutes for Q&A. Then you go to the next table and give your pitch again. You do this 5 times before lunch, and then 5 times after lunch.
90 Minute Panel on Internet Marketing
Tomorrow (Thursday, November 15th) I\’ve invited 6 excellent internet marketers to do a rapid-fire 90 minute panel discussion on internet marketing tactics that work. I\’ll throw out a tactic (I have scores of tactics to choose from) and then ask if they have ever tried this tactic and if so, how successful it was. We\’re going to record the program, and, if they give permission, we may create a transcript of it and make it available online.
BYU eBusiness Lecture Series–2006
I accidentally saved this blog post in my \”drafts\” and I guess I never posted this entry about the BYU eBusiness Lecture Series for Fall 2006.
It\’s a bit late in the BYU semester now, but since Josh James of Omniture (the world\’s best web analytics company) is speaking today, and Brian Beutler in two weeks, and Matt Mossman in three, I thought I should still post this in case some PLA members or others from the general public, may want to attend.

Team Formation Summit for Worldhistory.com
Last year I wrote in Connect magazine that I would be trying a grand experiment in team building. I would be trying an idea I got from The Entrepreneur\’s Manual, a very popular book for entrepreneurs published in 1997. I would hold a 2-day retreat with a couple dozen executives to brainstorm, network, plan, and then vote on the Founders Team for Worldhistory.com.
